Well that,s Easter out of the way…..whew…..all that chocolate, we now have the rest of the year to get over the choc binging before it is Christmas and the choc fest begins again!!!
So to get over the dreaded weight gain from the weekend, my sister and I (yes I have siblings!!), decided to increase the distance we walk to maintain our health. Regular exercise is good for you I have been told, so two or three times a week we walk, not your meandering, ambling kind of walk, we really step out! Well anyway we, in our wisdom, have decided to get serious about this health walking thing, we now walk the required 10,000 steps!!! We have downloaded the apps to our phones, time ourselves as well as see how many calories we use, very serious!!
Actually we are very lucky because we live here on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, the local countryside is full of walks from short distances across a few fields, to long hikes up on to the moors. This is what we did last week, or so we thought!!!!, Went up a lane that takes a path up on to the moors, very windy and wild, very “Wuthering Heights”, and we walked and walked, through mud, weeds and water. It was beautiful, no traffic noise, just the wind, skylarks and curlews, with the odd bleat from lambs.Very uplifting for the soul.
Of course this being Yorkshire dry weather is not guaranteed, even when the weather report says dry conditions, it had to rain on us!!!, not heavy rain but in the wind kind of rain, with small hail to make it worse, but we were very brave and kept going……….what else could we do, had to get home somehow!, which we managed to do. We said to each other “that must have been ten miles”, feeling very smug we checked our apps…….7.6 kilometers!!!!, must be something wrong with the app!! I was sooooo sure it was more than that,( yep we are both blond,) I had not put into the app. my stride length and my height and the fact we were walking briskly not jogging!!! So the moral of the story is “Get your facts right”. The good thing was, apart the stunning scenery and peace and quiet, I actually had burned off 410 calories, Yaay. of course I am sure I put some of it back on with a celebratory cappuccino and piece of cake. Not to worry, it was worth it!!
We did meet another character on our walk, a magnificent Highland bull!
We kept out of his way, looks lovely and cuddly but would not like to put him to the test. We just walked on by and enjoyed the expansive scenery.
I am looking foreword to next week , hoping the weather will at least be dry, don’t mind the cold but do not enjoy getting drenched, must make the most of these walks because as soon as the weather is warmer I am sure I will have a DIY project to get working on……..that’s a story for another day!
See you next time peeps.
